Educational CD-ROMs can be designed to increase the depth and breadth of understanding of the subject matter, thereby providing a solid foundation for the building of further knowledge. All learning consists of adding something not previously known to an existing web of knowledge. This can be helped by visualisations of the phenomenon of interest, especially if those visualisations are valid for the purposes for which the acquired knowledge will be applied.
